Everyone who is involved in caring and treating a cancer patient experiences the journey especially carers. As a carer you have valuable experiences that a patient cannot experience. Your story is just as important as those who physically suffer from cancer.

We understand that it's not easy to care for someone else and that you need to look out for yourself as well.

So what are some things you can do to help you give the best care that is fair?


Always have time for yourself

Be sure to make time for you to do what you enjoy doing, as well as to have a break. This can include taking up a hobby or setting a day for you to go out and do things you cannot normally do.


Take care of your health

Make sure that you are looking after your health. Be sure to:

  • eat healthy
  • drink plenty of water
  • get plenty of sleep
  • exercise your body and mind
  • and avoid harmful or addictive substances such as cigarettes or alcohol

Talk to someone

If your feeling overwhelmed, it can help you to talk to a family member or friend about how your feeling. you should never feel alone. If you need support you can contact your local cancer council.
