Be sun smart
The sun puts out harmful rays of energy called ultraviolet rays or UV rays. These rays of energy cannot be seen with your eyes but are found where ever there is sunlight. The planet we live on helps to protect us from UV rays but, it is important for us to do our part in stopping them from getting to our bodies, especially our skin. One of the biggest causes of skin cancer is from UV light and it can burn you during summer or winter.
When you are going out in the sun remember to always wear the following protection:
- A hat, the bigger the better, a full brim hat will help protect you head, your face and you neck as well as parts of your shoulders.
- Sunscreen, which is the best way in stopping the UV rays from hitting your skin. Remember that is recommended to use SPF30+ or higher. Every bottle of sunscreen will show you it's rating.
- Seeking shade, if you're going to be sitting or resting outdoors it is recommended that you find a shady spot.
